ABSTRACT

We describe a case of spontaneous conception following ovarian stimulation, in which a singleton pregnancy was revealed by ultrasound at 17 gestational weeks, with a multi-cystic "honeycomb" pattern in part of the placenta. With close monitoring, the patient delivered a healthy male neonate through cesarean section at 38 gestational weeks. The clinical findings, combined with ultrasound, laboratory, pathological, and immunohistochemistry examination, and short tandem repeat genotyping, confirmed a twin pregnancy consisting of a complete mole and coexisting fetus. No obvious abnormalities were found in the mother or the boy during a four-and-a-half-year's follow-up.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo study the clinicopathologic characteristics and diagnostic criteria of interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma/tumor (IDCS/T).

METHODSThe clinical features, histologic findings and results of immunohistochemical study in six cases of IDCS/T were analyzed, with review of literature.

RESULTSThe age of patients ranged from 20 to 68 years. The sites of involvement included lymph node, tonsil and soft tissue. Histologically, the tumor cells were arranged in sheets, fascicles or whorls and intimately admixed with abundant lymphocytes and plasma cells. They were oval to spindly in shape and contained pale eosinophilic cytoplasm, oval nuclei and distinct nucleoli.Immunohistochemical study showed that the tumor cells were positive for S-100 protein and CD68.

CONCLUSIONSIDCS/T is a rare malignant tumor with poor prognosis. It carries distinctive histologic pattern and immunophenotype. The entity needs to be distinguished from follicular dendritic cell sarcoma/tumor, anaplastic large cell lymphoma and other spindle cell sarcomas in occurring soft tissue.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate EphA7 protein expression of gastric carcinoma cells and its clinicopathological parameters. Methods: The expression level of EphA7 protein in gastric carcinoma and normal mucosa was detected using immunohistochemical staining. Results: The overexpression of EphA7 protein in gastric carcinoma was significantly related to age(P=0.016) and stage(P =0.033).Conclusion: EphA7 was differentially expressed in gastric carcinoma cells.

ABSTRACT

14-3-3 protein is a highly conserved soluble acid family. Recent researches suggest that they play critical regulatory roles in cellular processes such as cellular mitosis, growth, differentiation, proliferation and death,etc.14-3-3sigma protein, one member of the family, expresses mainly in epithelial cells and has histological specificity.14-3-3sigma protein interacts with several signal transduction proteins, induces cell cycle arrest in G2 phase after DNA damage, and regulates cellular biological functions.Abnormal expression of 14-3-3? sigma protein is common during tumor transformation, which may be induced by p53 mutation or CpG island hypermethylation of promoter. It is closely related with the transformation, progress and prognosis of human malignant tumors.

ABSTRACT

Stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the mammalian skin, has its unique structural, biophysical and biochemical characteristics. The form of stratum corneum is a continuous sheath of protein-enriched corneocytes embedded in an intercellular matrix enriched in nonpolar specialized lipids. It provides an impermeable barrier from exogenous noxious substances and prevents the body from transdermal water loss.Recent researches suggest that its morphological and functional abnormalities can be induced by various environmental effects such as ultraviolet radiation, mechanical friction, organic solvents, etc. However, the mechanism of the injury-repair process remains unclear.Several cytokines and ceramide may be involved in the regulation.

ABSTRACT

Objective:Eph is the largest member of the family of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTK). Hypermethylation of CpG island is an important mechanism leading to down-regulation of EphA7 in gastric cancer. The objective of this study is to investigate the expression level of EphA7 in gastric carcinoma and its roles in the development, progression and prognosis of gastric carcinoma. Methods:The expression level of EphA7 transcript in gastric carcinoma specimens and normal mucosa tissues was detected using real-time RT-PCR. Results:The expression level of EphA7 in gastric carcinoma was divided into three groups according to the expression rate in gastric cancer tissue and matched normal mucosa. Statistics analysis showed that the expression of EphA7 is significantly related to age and stage. Overexpression of EphA7 has a tendency to relate to metastasis. Conclusion:EphA7 is differentially expressed in gastric carcinoma specimens. Overexpression of EphA7 may play a role in the development and progress of gastric carcinoma.
